Hospitals resume services as docs call off strike

The agitating doctors on Friday decided to resume services in hospitals across the country after Dr Govinda KC , who had been staging a hunger strike, ended his indefinite hunger strike following government commitment to address his demands.

A government talks team led by Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) also held talks with the doctors aligned with Nepal Medical Association (NMA). Chairman of NMA, Dr Anjani Kumar Jha, informed that the association decided to call off the strike after talks with the government.

The government had formed a four-member talks panel under secretary Baskota to hold talks with Dr KC and NMA. The government panel held talks with the government on Thursday night and assured to meet his three-point demand. The umbrella body of Nepali doctors had halted services except emergency in hospitals—both private and government—across the country to express solidarity with Dr Govinda KC .

During talks held with the agitating doctors this morning, the government team has agreed to allocate postings of health workers in proportion to population density.
