Match-fixing accused footballers likely to be released on bail today

KATHMANDU: The Special Court is likely to release the match-fixing accused football players on bail today.

According to their lawyer the case is very weak against them and there is a possibility that they can get a bail today.

Police had filed a subversion (“rastra biplav“) case against them, as per Section 3.3.1 of the Crime against State and Punishment Act, 1989.

Police presented five footballers who face treason charges for alleged match-fixing in international games that Nepal played have been presented before the Special Court in the Capital on Sunday.

National football team skipper Sagar Thapa, his deputy Sandeep Rai, goalkeeper Ritesh Thapa and former players Anjan KC and Bikash Singh Chhetry on match-fixing charges on October 14 were arrested by Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range.
