Nepal demoted to Div 3 after Netherlands loss

Nepal has been demoted to Division 3 after suffering a crashing seven wickets defeat against Netherlands in the seventh place playoff of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers on Sunday.

Netherlands chased the 172 runs target with over 18 overs to spare losing only three wickets. Eric Szwarczynski (56) scored a half century to earn the victory for the Dutch side. Peter Borren scored 45 not out. Sharad Bheswakar was the top scorer for Nepal with 42 runs as Nepali side posted a meager 171 losing nine wickets. Paras Khadka also contributed 29 runs after losing the toss and being sent to bat first. Ahsan Malik grabbed three wickets for the Netherlands. Basanta Regmi took two wickets for Nepal while another wicket was claimed by Prithu Baskota.

Nepal has lost all of the five matches it played in New Zealand. Nepal will now play its ninth place playoffs against the defeated side between the match of Uganda and Canada.
