‘Solidarity for Dr KC Alliance’ to stage a demonstration at Maitighar on Saturday
Supporters of Dr. Govinda KC, who has been on a hunger strike at Teaching hospital for over a week demanding reforms in medical education in Nepal and the impeachment of CIAA commissioner Lokman Singh KC, have formed a group called “Solidarity for Dr Govinda KC Alliance”.
Members of the Alliance, that includes Dr. Baburam Bhattarai of Naya Shakti Nepal, had a meeting on Tuesday, and they have decided to stage a demonstration in support for Dr KC on Saturday. They will be participating in a rally that will begin from Maitighar to Naya Baneshwar.
A press release issued by the alliance reads: “Dr. KC’s agendas of improvement and accountability in the medical and medical education sectors are agendas that concern ordinary Nepali citizens. The fact that the agreements have been made with Dr KC numerous times and yet no concrete changes have taken place is deeply unsatisfactory to us.”
The alliance has also stated that forcing Dr. KC to repeatedly risk his health for the sake of substantial change is not feasible, and collective responsibility must be taken in order to ensure that his demands are addressed.
